The Soyoko Kachina is meant to intimidate young children to be good. Apparently, when I was young, I went right up to them with my offering and said with a proud smile “I’ve been a good girl!” I actually thought they looked cool, not scary. They are supposed to hit you with a yucca branch to remind you to be good. I got a light tap.
